How to avoid food produced in a heated greenhouse?

Fruits and vegetables grown in heated greenhouses produce three times more carbon emissions than open-field production.

If you come across fruits and vegetables in the supermarket, grown locally, however not in season, they’re probably from a heated greenhouse. The energy that is used to heat these greenhouses contributes to significant pollution in the atmosphere.

Did you know it’s more environmentally friendly to purchase tomatoes grown in Spain and freighted sea than it is to buy local Australian tomatoes grown out of season in a heated greenhouse?

Always think about the seasonal aspect when buying locally. Check your harvest seasons: Find your local harvest season
